5.9.11

Just a quick update before I head to bed…

Koal had a really good day today.  When I arrived at the hospital this morning with my parents and kids, he was wide awake with his eyes open looking all around. Adry and Kade had a GREAT time talking to him and holding his hand (Adry tried to poke his eyes out, of course), and it was just a sweet sight to watch them interact and get to know each other.

Koalton had an untrasound on his leg this morning and the clots remain the same.  They are still there, larger in the vein than artery, but unchanged from yesterday. So, the docs assure us it can take awhile and as long as his pulse is easy to feel and the circulation is good in his leg, they will continue to monitor it and take blood samples to determine how to dose his thinners each day.

He spent about half his day under the lights again today, but then was able to have them turned off as well.  He seems to like to have his arms swaddled in a blanket, so he slept very soundly most of the afternoon once the nurse returned him to that enjoyable position.

The little man had an x-ray of his chest and abdomen early this afternoon as well – to check his umbilical lines and lungs.  Everything looked great with his lungs, and they adjusted his IV lines slightly and he was good to go!

We continue to wait to hear from the cardiac surgeon about timing for Koal’s first surgery.  We were hoping to hear SOMETHING today, but no date has been set yet.  Please continue to pray that he would be able to have surgery as soon as possible, as he is stable enough and we’re just waiting on timing, rather than any medical issue.  The longer we wait, the longer he just lays in the NICU not being held or fed or recovering so we can bring him home.  It’s frustrating, but we know God’s timing is perfect, and we will wait patiently to hear from the surgical team about when it will happen.

Adam and I had a wonderful time with the little dude before we came home for the evening tonight as well.  After his night nurse checked him out, he was wide awake and in a fun mood.  He just looked all around and followed our voices as we talked to him and held his hand and gave him kisses.  Having him 5 days old and only seeing his eyes open and bright about 3 times total, it’s just amazing to get to have that sweet time with him when he does wake up and stay alert.

I can’t end without saying thank you again, for all your thoughts and prayers.  Please continue to pray for the timing of Koal’s surgery, as well as his continued improvement with the clots and the jaundice.  Please pray also for my parents as they are taking on Kade and Adry these days. The kids are having a BLAST hanging with Grammy and Grandpa Baldwin, so pray Grammy and G-pa don’t get TOO worn out! We of course pray also that Adam and I would continue to rest well.

You and Adam are so blessed to have 3 sets of grandparents here to help with Kade and Adry. I know your parents are loving having this special time with the kids and will do just fine especially since you and Adam are right there with them to help when they have questions. Grandma Melanie commented several times how great the kids did during their stay with her and Grandpa Steve while you were in the hospital. She said Kade was the ultimate Big Brother and he and Adry followed the routine Melanie planned out just like it was what they had always done. You have been blessed with such great kids who are "rolling with the flow" showing you that God is taking care of even the smallest details of your lives. Grandparents are one of God's really special blessings and you are so blessed to have such great ones close by as you travel this road with Koal- so in the mist of all you have on your mind remember the Lord is taking good care of Kade and Adry with the best care givers of all - their grandparents.
